Medicus Golf PowerMax, Distance, Power and Camilo Villegas

Written by: Randy S.

Most golfers reading this article have most likely seen the Medicus infomercial featuring Camilo Villegas and the Medicus PowerMax weighted driver.  The purpose of this article is to expand and explain further the importance of why golfers should implement this training aid into their practice, especially with the golf offseason looming.

Let’s first address the question of, “How does the PowerMax work and how will it help me in creating more swing speed, power and thus distance?”

Almost all golfers have heard the saying that, “Impact is the “Moment of Truth” in the golf swing.”  Possibly fewer golfers have heard that, “Impact is not a stopping point but should be considered a location that the swing must pass through.”  But what does this truly mean and how does it relate to power, distance and the PowerMax?

Without going into those identities which create power or are power sources, the failure of the golfer to swing all the way through destroys all chances to accomplish their personal maximum clubhead speed.  Most golfers become so “Impact Happy” that in their effort to hit the ball they induce a quitting motion through impact and thus a power loss.  Please keep in mind though that one should not sacrifice accuracy for power but the good news is that both can be accomplished with clear understanding, education, correct tools, and a plan for building ones golf swing.

This is how the Medicus PowerMax Weighted Driver will assist golfers in increasing clubhead speed and thus distance.  As mentioned above, the golfer needs to swing all the way through impact and the PowerMax Weighted Driver aids in accomplishing precisely that.  Due to the unique design of the PowerMax, including the overall weight and its placement, it makes it harder for the golfer to slowdown so it then begins to train the golfer to acquire the feel of through the ball.  In our Medicus Swingology Golf teaching, training, and in a correct golf motion, all golf swings (including putting and chipping) need to go to both arms straight and the PowerMax ingrains that feel into the golfer’s total motion.

Other attributes of distance is ones strength, flexibility, arm and hand speed.  The overall weight of the PowerMax will aid in building strength and flexibility when used daily in a planned workout.  The other unique feature of the design is that you can use the PowerMax in the comfort of your own home but you can also take it to the driving range and actually hit golf balls with it.

Remember that for power and distance the golfer must get the clubhead going at the best controllable speed and sustain it through impact with everything they have.  It is clubhead speed that determines the separation rate or how fast the ball leaves the clubface.

Here is the formula for distance, speed and thus power and distance:  70% of approach speed + 100% of separation speed is going to equal the ball speed.  This is all true unless you lose compression on the golf ball and that is where, how and why Medicus Swingology Alignments must be introduced.  The clubhead needs to be traveling as fast as possible at separation because as the formula states, you will get 100% of that speed.  You must simply have clubhead speed to be a long hitter.  No amount of effort will change it for speed alone is what determines that rate.

So the only way to gain distance is to keep the clubhead going and do not lose compression into the golf ball.  It’s not so much that you lose compression it’s just that you do not get it.

So what is a golfer to do? Get the hands moving back and forth with the intention of going all the way through and not stalling or slowing down at and through impact. Then begin to add those elements which contribute to good impact and in particular a flat left wrist. Back and forth and back and forth with a flat left wrist and then begin to learn too roll the hands over and over again all the way through the shot and without a ball. Now add the ball with the same intention and attention given to not quitting and total focus on the TOTAL Motion making the shot.

The above is the foundation and start point for creating power and without this basic application one will continue to hack at the ball.  Once this is accomplished one then can proceed in understanding other identities which contribute to power which includes power sources, being in shape, hand and arm speed with focus on improving all without a sacrifice of Swingology Alignments which is a major contributor of Power.

If golfers see the results of a flat left wrist, swinging all the way through and begin instilling that feel into their golf swings and game, they have no other choice but to improve.
