Huge SS Increase!
For about the past two to three years I’ve lost a lot of distance on all my clubs….driver from around 270 to 230 and PW from 140 to 115. I’ve been doing everything I can to figure the problem out. I’ve been on a few simulators and my SS with a driver has been around 88-92 mph….I’m 6′3″ 205 lbs 29 years old and pretty flexible so that’s extremely slow. I treid swinging harder but I couldn’t get my SS about 92.
I purchased a Powermeter from Medicus to try and measure my SS and make changes to my swing to see if I could increase my SS. First off, the Powermeter is extremely accurate…..measuring my SS with a driver at 88-90 mph, exactly what all the high end swing speed devices read. I’ve been screwing around for a couple months with this and haven’t noticed any SS increase until yesterday when I had a revelation. I taped myself and noticed I was very flat and basically was whipping the club inside and around my body and not working the club vertically up at all. So I started doing the Ryan Moore type swing or Nick Faldo drill and really trying to feel the club working vertical once the toe was pointing at the sky.
This felt very good but different than what my body has gotten use to. Clamped on the Powermeter and got a huge surprise, my SS had gone from 90 to consistently around 115 with a few swings in the 122-124 range!! It’s been so frustrating getting outdriven by my 50 year old dad and 57 year old father in law even though I score better than they do my lack of distance has been putting tremendous pressure on my short game.
